Make Camping Part of Your Christmas

Posted On 2009-12-10 , 8:00 PM

“Part of my Christmas? In the Cold?” you ask. While I do prefer tent camping over RV camping, I have to admit that if I'm going camping in the winter, it's in an RV.

You don't need to own an RV to go RV camping. Lots of people aren't aware, but you can rent RV's. If you are traveling for the holidays, renting an RV and parking it at a KOA local to your destination might be cheaper than flying and staying in a hotel. You'll save on the plane tickets, the rental car, and especially the food.
There is a Catch
This only is cheaper if your destination is not very far from home. Do some research and do the math. It's worth it to know which will be cheaper. I figure if I'm traveling less than 100 miles, I can save money by renting an RV. If I'm going farther than that, I either stay with family or do the hotel thing and fly.

The benefit of RV camping in the cold is that your RV will have heaters to keep you warm at night. You will want to be sure that everything is working. If you own an RV, you know that long before the cold of winter, you need to have it checked out. A lot of people simply park their RV for the winter. So if you are going to rent one, I suggest trying it out at home before you take it on a journey.
