Camping Lighting

Lighting a campground is not usually how campers think when choosing light sources. Most campers have lanterns and flashlights. They show up to camp with both or either and carry these objects where they are needed.

Both flashlights and lanterns come in forms that are meant to be held or meant to be stationary. Lanterns can be powered by batteries or fuel such as propane. We suggest having both types. Propane lanterns are good for outdoors, never for inside a tent. Battery-powered lanterns do well in lighting the inside of your tent. Flashlights are good to have too, because they are easy for an individual to carry with them. Headlamps have become very popular because they allow the wearer to have light without holding it--freeing their hands for other needs.

On the other hand, lighting your whole campsite brings another perspective. Using one of these two products or others can safely and efficiently light your whole campsite and make nighttime activities easier.

The lantern hanger allows you to safely hang a lantern from a tree or pole. Be sure not to have the lantern too close to the tree, because it will heat up. Also note that your lantern will be hot during use, so be sure to turn it off and let it cool before taking it down.

The lantern stand is also a great idea because you don't have to rely on trees or poles--not every campsite will have them conveniently located. With Light sources placed strategically around your campsite, you can cook meals, have activities, and relax in the dark without worrying about carrying a light around.

If you often find yourself annoyed to have to carry light with you at your campsite, consider lighting your entire camp. Experience has shown us that it makes for a much calmer and safer experience.
